It’s that time of year again—Open Enrollment is here! This is your opportunity to review and make changes to your benefits to ensure they meet your needs for the upcoming year.
What You Need to Know:
- Review Your Current Plan: Take a moment to assess your current benefits and how they align with your needs.
- Explore New Options: We have several plan options available that might better suit your needs. Be sure to review the details of each plan carefully.
- Make Changes: If you wish to update your benefits, you can do so during this Open Enrollment period. Please visit the links below to view your options and make any necessary changes. Please submit all Enrollment Forms to HR a don’t forget to enroll eligible dependents, you must provide the following applicable documents:
- If enrolling your Spouse: Marriage Certificate and Social Security Card.
- If enrolling your Child(ren): Birth Certificate(s) and Social Security Card(s).

Life, AD&D and Disability Insurance
Life, AD&D and disability insurance can fill a number of financial gaps due to a temporary or permanent reduction of income. Consider what your family would need to cover day-to-day living expenses and medical bills during a pregnancy or illness-related disability leave, or how you would manage large expenses (rent or mortgage, children’s education, student loans, consumer debt, etc.) after the death of a spouse or partner.

The City has partnered with Municipal Pooling Authority for more than risk management. Through their wellness program, we are bringing wellness and team building events to City employees! Some of the new and exciting events include:
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
There are times when everyone needs a little help or advice, or assistance with a serious concern. The EAP through Claremont can help you handle a wide variety of personal issue such as emotional health and substance abuse; parenting and childcare needs; financial coaching; legal consultation; and eldercare resources.
The EAP is available around the clock to ensure you get access to the resources you need:
- Unlimited phone access 24/7
- In-person or video counseling for short-term issues; up to 8 sessions with a counselor per person, per issue, per year
- Unlimited web access to helpful articles, resources, and self-assessment tools.
Employee Investments
Saving for the future starts in the present to ensure that you have enough money to enjoy a comfortable standard of living when you stop or reduce the number of hours you work.
California Public Employee Retirement System
Full time employees are eligible for the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), a defined benefit pension plan for all full-time employees. CalPERS retirement benefits are calculated based on members years of service, age, and final compensation, and are grouped into two categories of membership:
- Local Miscellaneous Members are not involved in law enforcement, fire suppression, the protection of public safety, or employed in a position designated by law as local safety.
- Local safety Members are involved in law enforcement, fire suppression, the protection of public safety, or employed in a position designated by law as local safety.
By way of contract, the City also participates in the CalPERS 1959 Survivor Benefit, Level 3: The 1959 Survivor Benefit provides a monthly allowance to eligible survivors of members who were covered for this benefit program and died before retirement. This benefit coverage is available by contract amendment for those members who are not covered by federal Social Security with their employer. Covered members are required to pay a monthly fee that is deducted from their salary specifically to fund the 1959 Survivor Benefit Program.
Flexible Spending Account
A healthcare FSA allows you to set aside tax-free money to pay for healthcare expenses you expect to have over the coming year.
Dependent Care Assistance
A dependent care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can help families save potentially hundreds of dollars per year on day care.
Transit and Parking Account
Pay for transportation to and from work tax free. Common eligible expenses include transportation through train, bus, subway, and ferry.
457 Deferred Compensation Plan
With a 457 plan, you’re in control of how much you save and where you invest those savings –all the while, enjoying tax advantages. Contributions are made during your employment, and you can change, stop, and restart at any time.
