Pinole Swears in New Mayor and Council Members

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the City of Pinole swore in two re-elected Council Members and selected a new Mayor, and Mayor Pro Tem.
Pinole’s new Mayor, Cameron Sasai, has served as Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Pinole over the past year. He was the first Filipino American Council Member elected to the Pinole City Council in 2022 and now sets a new record as both the city’s first Filipino American Mayor and youngest Mayor. Sasai served on regional committees including the WestCAT Board of Directors, the West Contra Costa Transportation Commission (WCCTC), and the Bayfront Chamber of Commerce.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to have the trust of my colleagues and the people of Pinole as I step into representing them through this important role,” Sasai said. “This is a historic moment for our entire community, and I recognize the importance of it.
Anthony Tave was sworn in as the new Mayor Pro Tempore. Anthony L. Tave has served on the Pinole City Council from 2018-2024. He moved to Pinole because he believes that the town has character and is a neighborly community. Anthony has a civil engineering background and experience with asset management. Over the past year he has pushed initiatives involving public safety, housing, and public services.
Maureen Toms was sworn in for her second consecutive term after being re-elected last month. She is a lifelong Pinole resident and has served as a Pinole City Council Member from 2015-2018, 2020-2023, and just completed her term as Pinole’s most recent Mayor.. She has been a land use planner, specializing in land use policy, transit-oriented development, affordable housing, and infrastructure for a local jurisdiction for over 30 years. She brings her work experience to her role as council member in Pinole. She has contributed over 30 years of community service and civic experience to Pinole.
Devin Murphy was also re-elected to the City Council in November’s election. He served as Mayor of Pinole in 2023. Since being elected to the City Council in 2020, Devin has expressed that he values a citywide participatory budgeting process, small business growth, and progress on regional climate action. He is also experienced as a small business owner and civic technologist.
Norma Martinez-Rubin will continue to carry out her second term as a council member, serving since2018.. She was mayor for one year from December 2020-2021. In addition to Pinole City Council, she serves onthe Cal Cities Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee, the Pinole Thriving Earth Exchange Project, and the Pinole Historical Society Board of Directors. Her professional background is in public health and program evaluation.
