Pinole fire hazard severity map showing yellow moderate zones

The fire hazard severity zone maps for Pinole have been updated for the first time since 2009, with some areas in Pinole Valley now classified as “moderate” instead of “high” and “very high.” State law now requires cities to adopt “moderate” zone classification through an ordinance. Residents are encouraged to review the updated maps using the interactive tool on the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District’s (Con Fire) website (ccfpd.org/lra-maps/), provide public comments, and explore FAQs for more details. Con Fire will also be hosting a Town Hall on April 1, 2025, 6-7pm at 1025 Escobar Street, Martinez to discuss these updates and allow for an opportunity for in-person public comment.

As California approaches fire season, it is important that Pinole residents do their part to prevent wildfire with weed abatement and other measures. Make sure that your home has enough defensible space, clear debris from roofs and gutters and keep weeds and vegetation short. Code Enforcement will be mailing information with detailed requirements for fire prevention measures by the end of April.
